Bars In Newport
Comments(0)OK I’ve been here for about 4 months or so and I’ve got a pretty good feel for the nightlife in and around newport here goes:
Costa Mesa - Mix of posh clubs like sutra and dive bars like Goat Hill. Very trendy and pretty trashy on both accounts. Good times can be had and can meet some interesting people, if you’re in the right mood. Either end you choose you should know exactly what you’re getting into. Neither type of place is really my style so I dont have too much more info on them. Best bet for a one night stand
Huntington - Frat boy central. The trashiest place I’ve seen in southern california. Surf City, ha! Girls wearing next to nothing and more tats than you can shake a needle at. Its like PB minus the college kids and safety. Beachfront is the best place I’ve been. If youre going out there expect to get blacked out before the night is up. Best for a dysfunctional relationship.
Balboa Peninsula - lots of options but generally all pretty pretentious. Ill break down into categories:
Worst: Rudys would be great if they played decent music. Sharkeez is the best thing about huntington not in huntington. District is a meat locker. Cabo Cantina - way worse than in SD and Wilshire.
Best: Blue Beet has been awesome each time I’ve been there (tuesday night 80s). Kantina - classy joint is pretty out of place for penin, great for a nice date but not too many single folks.
Jury is out: Woodys - very hit or miss. Mutts - only been there once but had a good time, hear great things about the happy hour. Newport Brew Co - hit or miss, a good place to go with a group for grub and grog.
Corona Del Mar - Pretty high end restaurant/lounge style places. My favorite area to go out in. 333 - posh restaurant/bar with a mixed age crowd, but no dancing. Landmark - steak house turns night club with a killer patio, pretty young.
Jamboree - Havent been to tentation or shark bar but from what i hear they are too ‘eastern’ and just sound choc full of people with too much $ and not much else
Overall - if you’re like me then 333, landmark and kantina are the places to be. Fun can be had pretty much any where around newport though so its depends on what you are looking for. I’m not with all the rah rah, so I like the lounge feel places better. I hear good things about Detroit and some other new club in Costa Mesa so I will update this once I check them out.
