Taking Freedoms For Granted

A not-so-subtle reminder of how fortunate we are to live in a country in which we have the right to protest comes to us from the nation of Myanmar (or Burma according to president Bush).    There a military coup has seized power and the citizens are trying to restore some form of democracy.

How sad it is that so few of us exercise this right when we are outraged, including myself.

The Child Healthcare Nightmare

I dont want to talk too much politics on here but this is too audacious to be ignored. The Whitehouse and many republicans in the Senate are resisting to give $35B to fund healthcare for some 9 million of the country’s poor children.  These kids will be completely uncovered if the program is not funded. That’s just so disgraceful. Please write your congressman and urge them to support this measure.

Prepare for the Worst, Hope for the Best

Its my personal philosophy that I try to adhere to.  Approach situations with low or no expectations of a positive outcome and you will never be disappointed.  Hope that things will work out as best as they can. But be prepared for the worst possible outcome.

This applies not only to personal life but to business as well. Its always better to be too cautious than too daring.  Shame on you Microsoft.  You ruined an experience that millions of us had been waiting months for because youre too cheap to add network infrastructure when the game is going to reap nearly a half billion in profit.

HALOOOOOOOOO ITS OUT TODAY! Dont be surprised if you dont hear from me for a while. Its not that I don’t love you. I’m just…..busy!

Schultz’ Philosophy

The following is the philosophy of Charles Schultz, the creator of the “Peanuts” comic strip. You don’t have to actually answer the questions Just read the e-mail straight through, and you’ll get the point.

1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world.

2. Name the last five Heisman trophy winners.

3. Name the last five winners of the Miss America pageant.

4. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize.

5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor and actress.
6. Name the last decade’s worth of World Series winners.

How did you do?

The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday. These are no second-rate achievers. They are the best in their fields. But the applause dies. Awards tarnish. Achievements are forgotten Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners.

Here’s another quiz. See how you do on this one:

1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.

2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.

3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.

4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special.

5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.

Easier?

The lesson: The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones that care.

Pass this on to those people who have made a difference in your life.

Great Weekend

Friday night I was treated to the first electrical storm since I moved to California some three years ago.   It was an amazing sight, I had forgotten how truly awesome weather is.
Saturday I atoned for my sins on Yom Kippur. That afternoonwalked around Balboa Island which is a land stuck in a time warp.  It looks and feels like its from the 50s only with some scattered modern houses and boats.  Incredible place to visit and I highly recommend if.

On Collins Island I saw a Lamborghini LM002, which was insane.  There were only 301 of them ever made and it has some 450hp, can do 130 in AWD. WTF!?

After that watched some awesome college football games. Gators and USC both won.

Saturday night saw the Bourne Ultimatum which was also fantastic as I am a huge fan of the series both on scene and in print Normally its a no-brainer that the books would be superior to the film, but these films are so well made and captivating I would not rank one form over the other. They are both good and enjoyable in their own right, to compare them would be frivolous.

Sunday morning I watched the Bourne Supremacy on my HD-DVD player, and yea that thing pwnz!!!  Watched some football after that and the Giants pulled out a clutch win with a great comeback by Eli Manning and a goal line stance.  I have not seen that kind of heart from a NY football team since the early 90s.

After that I was introduced to the “Halle Berry” (half jager half goldschlager). Its like a shot of adrenaline in your gut.  Went for a bike ride and over to Sharkeez for some action. Then to San Shi Go for an unbelievable meal, probably the best I’ve had yet.  Then cuddled up with a special lady friend.

Unreal, life cant be this good.  Woke up this morning and it was one of those crystal clear sunrises and the temp was just right.  Thank you lord.

Movies are fun again

Over the last year or so, I’ve really lost my love of film. It just seems like there are only a couple movies a year that are worth watching these days because everything has been done already and most major releases are so formulaic that you know whats going to happen 15 mins before it does.  Then there are too many independent films that get rave reviews and wind up boring me to tears (pans labyrinth).

However there is hope. I just got an HD-DVD player to tag along with my xbox 360. It came with 8 free movies, 2 of which I picked, but I’d say 5 of which are ones I’d want to own. And really, it brings movies to life. The contrast between dark backgrounds and characters faces is amazing. The picture is so much more crisp. I remember the feeling when I first saw a dvd from VHS and I think this is even more of a leap forward than that was.  For 176 bucks, you cant go wrong if you enjoy movies at all. That and a $14 monthly netflix and youve got a lot of entertainment for a little price.

DIY Knowledge

We live in the age of information. You can find anything you want to know about instantly.  Before you ask someone a question, you probably could find the answer for yourself.  Be considerate:  Just fucking google it.
