2000s Hippie

Modern day hippies wear button-downs and slacks to the office. They drive mercedes and have good jobs.  They embody the spirit and mentality of the 60s era hippies. But they have leveraged that into a lifestyle that suits mainstream society. This allows them to be more effective in their mission. By not looking, sounding and *ahem* smelling different from your average man, they have less barrier in communicating their message.  Smart hippie, smart.

Tick Tock…

It turns out last weekend that the reason I was so tired and miserable was that I had strept throat! Yuck.  I shoulda gone to the doctor earlier in the week but didn’t. So the result was me being bed-ridden for all of friday night and then couch ridden (playing video games) all day saturday. It was good to take some downtime and considering the way the rest of the weekend went I probably wouldnt have survived.

Sunday I drove down to SD with Brea and the ensuing 36 hours were completely out of control.  That city is dangerous man.  I didnt realize that it was possible for a place to be too much fun but I’m starting to think that PB really is.  Had a wonderful time with my good friends so I’m not complaining but, I can’t conceive how I kept up that level of partying for 2.5 years! No wonder my body was ragged this winter.

We drove back last night and immediately passed out. I was actually glad to be out of there and in a place where I dont want to party ALL the time.   I mean 90% of the time is cool but not all the time.

Man I can hear those hands moving….tick,tock,tick,tock…..the hands of time. Im getting old

Go USA!!

According to NPR Jordin Sparks, the recently crowned American Idol, received approximately 12 million more votes than President George W. Bush did to win the 2004 election.  Does that mean that given Bush’s current approval rating, which hovers in the low 30s, George wouldn’t even make it to the finals of AI?  Wow.  How disconnected is the government from the peoples’ lives? Evidently, quite a bit. Yikes!

Go Open Source

Microsoft charges outrageous fees for all of there products.  Since they’ve been around for so many years now, there are various free alternatives to virtually every product they offer. Also many of the common software applications you run likely have cheaper alternatives as well.  People like me believe that software should be free and fun to use.  Heres a great website that list many popular apps and their opensource alternatives.  Give it a try and save yourself (or your company) some big bucks!

Photos speak a thousand words

I strongly recommend using Google’s Picasa program to manage and share your pictures. Its fast, friendly and fun. It organizes your pics on your computer and uploads them to your own website in a flash.  Its got cool features like tagging anc ommenting too. They did a great job. I hope all my friends get on there so we can share pics together.  40/day is the goal for the fun times.

Memorial Weekend

Woohoo. Summer’s on its way!!! Alright. I’m going up to LA on friday night. Hopefully will find a chill place with some live music. Then down to SD on satuday through monday to get rowdy with the crew.  Lets do it!

I’m a huge nerd

My new job is really what I’ve felt I was meant to do for a long time. To be on management of a technology based company,  going back and forth with people on ideas, planning and putting those ideas into practice. I’m this punk kid and I’m debating with people who have been in the industry for 30 years telling them that I know better than they do. I LOVE IT. I love being proven wrong. Is that nuts?  Its not ideal but it feels like I belong.  Finally I can be challenged in something I actually care about.

Some cool pictures

The finalists for the Smithosian Magazine photo contest can be found here.  Incredible nature shots. I think my favorite is the one of newzealand. Whats yours?

Back

Just got back from Joshua Tree Nat’l Park where it was HOT baby. Whew! I never felt the heat like that in my life.  Other than the brutal sun the music festival was amazing. The bands were, for the most part, very entertaining.  I was able to spend time with most of my best friends from San Diego all at once.  It was everything I had hoped for and more.  Check out the pictures on my web album

Whats important to you?

Whats important to you? A great question for which many of us don’t really have an answer. Or maybe we have an answer or two but not a complete picture. If someone were to ask you to list the 10 most important things to you, in order, could you do it?

It is very valuable to have goals in life. The only way to set the right goals is to really understand oneself.  Take 5 minutes and think about everything you’ve done and thought about in the last week. Family, friends, money, work, exercising, school, kids, reading, etc.  Now compare their importance to the amount of time you’ve spent on them.  Unhappy with the results?  Do something about it then.  Once we figure out what really matters and make sure that we are putting our time and energy into them, we’ll know that we are getting the most out of each day.
